What To Do When You Want To Buy A Used Car?
Author: Rudy Silva
In buying used cars, it is wise to turn to friends, relatives, family and officemates. It can save you a lot of money, which is normally received as commissions by sales agents.
Giving priority to the used vehicles that your friends or family recommend can give you better information about how the car was handled. You can also get clearer details about the quality of the used car. You can also ask a mechanic friend to come see the car with you.
If none of the used vehicles recommended by your friends appealed to you, you can turn to the classified ads of your local newspaper. There are many used cars for sale listed there. You can narrow down your search by knowing the type of car you want to buy, the model, the engine type, mileage and some features like color and other accessories.
The type of car may include four-door, two-door, hatchback, station wagon, sports utility vehicle, sports car, pickup truck, two or four-wheel drive and so on.
You can list the ones that you think can pass your standards and contact the owners to ask questions that were not answer in the listing. If you like the answers you get from the owner, request an appointment to see the auto. This can save you time and effort.
If you have access to the internet, you can visit free classified sites such as Craigslist. You can also try looking at other websites devoted to selling used cars. If you are not comfortable with it, you can first type the phrase: “how to buy a used car” on the search box. Then your search engines will load the results of sites that offer tips and step-by step guides on how to buy a used car.
There are many dealers of used vehicles that offer manufactured-certified pre-owned cars. Generally, they may charge you more. However, when you buy a preowned car, it comes with a limited warranty.
List the top 10 choices and contact the owners for an appointment, it is wise if you bring someone who is an expert at cars. Take notes for each used car that you see so you can compare notes with all the cars you see.
Part of the standard operating procedure is to request for a photocopy of maintenance records from the owners. There are also websites that make this information readily available as you view the used cars.
Ask for its vehicle identification number and run a check on the Carfax to know about its actual mileage, number of transfer of title ownership, and some information such as incidence of being wrecked or salvaged.
While doing the inspection, you can ask for a drive test. Your friend and you can do the test driving to better understand the real condition of the car engine, alignment condition, and the capability of the brakes. Check everything like the headlights, tail lights, hazard lights, brake lights, carburetor, air-conditioning system, heater, windows, tires and rims, and the radio of the used cars.
When you have found the used car of your choice, make a deal with the owner and get the necessary papers, forms including the bill of sale, and the car title. Some used cars dealers handle the paper work for you.

What to do if I want buy used car from someone in UK that is origtinally from (car) USA and bring it?
Or, to be gramatically correct:
What do I have to do if I want to buy a used car that is from the USA, and bring it to Canada, if the person selling it is in the UK with the car, but placed the car on sale in the Canadian market and will ship it to me? Do I have to register it as an international or American import if it is an American car to begin with?
That’s probably a scam advert, be well aware. I went through a process of selling my car in the UK and I got lot’s of offers from overseas offering me money in advance ….. all financial scams.
Check out this website, the one I advertised my car at. Lot’s of advice, it makes interesting although scary reading.

There’s plenty of advice for buying and selling the car.
In case you had the seller verified…
Technically speaking, a US car imported to the UK had to undergo a lot of modifications (indicators, brake lights, etc.) to comply with the UK laws. The British importer had to pay duty, VAT (sales tax) and road tax every year. It became a British car so to import such a car to Canada, you’d have to remove all British mods to comply with Canadian laws and pay duties and customs.
If you buy a car used from an individual or dealership, can you get monthly payments for it?
Hello, I am young and have had no experience buying used cars, I was wondering, if you buy a used car from an individual, do you have to pay it all up front or can you pay in monthly payments?
If you buy a used car from a dealer can you pay in monthly payments or do you still have to buy it up front?
I am asking because I cannot just plop down 15 grand or so then and there.
Thanks!
Hi,
the majority of people (about 95% or so) finance their cars. Basically no-one pays cash for their car, because most cars cost above $20,000.
It is better to buy a car new, than to buy a used car. You will get a lower interest rate, and newer cars usually never have many problems occur within the first three to five years. I would highly recommend buying the car of your choice from the company dealership, like only buy a toyota from a toyota dealership.
The recommended down payment is 1/3 of the car, but $3,000 is a good downpayment. The higher down payment you pay, the lower your monthly payment will be. To get an idea for the car you can afford, your monthly payment will be about $25 for every $1,000 the car costs. So for a $17,000 car, your monthly payment will be about $425.
Make sure to research the car before going to the dealership, and test driving it before buying. I highly recommend Nissan, Toyota, Honda, Acura, BMW, Lexus.
You can also save some money buy buying certified preowned from the dealership. These are used cars the dealership has bought and has reconditioned to like new condition, and sold as new with full warranties.
Also, just as a side note, when you purchase the car, they will bombard with you with buying gap insurance, extended warranties, extra clear coat, etc. All of this stuff is just to get you to pay more money, don’t buy any of it, it’s all just fluff. Good luck!
Is It Bad to Buy a Used Car From Ohio?
I live in pa and was looking for a used car. I found one nearby in ohio, but i once heard you shouldnt buy used cars from ohio. Why is this? Is it even true?
I live in PA and I can’t see anything wrong with it. Ohio puts their cars through safety checks before they sell them. It’s their law.
First time buyer needs advice on buying used car. What are good brands to buy even when they are 15 yrs old?
And what do you suggest is a good VALUE when buying one of these cars?
What’s the maximum mileage that a used car can have and still run well in your opinion?
And what questions should I ask the owner? What should I look for?
Thank you for your help.
The one that has been well maintained. Ask for maintenance records and have a mechanic check it out before you buy.
Would you rather buy a used car from Obama or George Bush?
Who would you trust more?
