New & Used Surfboard Buyers Guide
Author: Andrew Stedman
Buying a new surfboard can be a tricky experience. Whether you’re an experienced rider or just learning there is a huge amount of choice out there. With 50+ years of surfboard development design concepts for surfboards vary massively.
When choosing a board there are a few key factors to take into consideration. The key questions you need to ask yourself are
- What skill level am I?
- What is my Height?
- What is my Weight?
- What type of wave will I be riding?
- What is my budget?
Once you have answered these points you need to research which surfboard designs and shapes will give you a board that fits your answers to the above questions.
A comprehensive Surfboard buyers guide is the best place to start. The previous link will guide you to a page with information on all the different types of surfboard available. It discusses Board shapes, tail shapes and bottom shapes with detailed information on the characteristics of each how these design differences affect a Surfboards performance. The link also gives you a height/weight chart that will tell guide you in picking the correct size board.
Once you have decided what type of board will work for you it’s not a bad idea to read some reviews, Surfboard reviews give you a real world view of how a particular model works (or doesn’t work) when out in the waves. For example, It’s nice to know all the technical details on how a particular tail shape might loosen up the board when riding a wave, However if the wrong combination of tail shape and base shape are used together then it can result in a surfboard that simply doesn’t work.
Once you have done your research and have decided on what type of Surfboard will work for you it’s time to buy yourself a board. If you are new to Surfing then there is no point in getting yourself a brand new board. Surfboards are fragile things and your first board will most definitely take a beating. The performance difference between a new and a used board with a few dings on it will not be noticeable to a beginner either. Have a look for a reasonable condition board that is within your budget. Many fantastic new and used surfboard bargains are available across the internet.
Good luck with your search. Finding the right surfboard for you will enable you to maximise your enjoyment while out in the water. Happy Surfing!

Should I get a new car or use public transportation?
I have a ’97 corolla with that is dying. I’m moving to a suburb of Chicago to live with my aunt and I can get by with public transportation. I was wondering what vehicle ownership really costs, I think this will help me make my decision. I’ve been trying to make a list of *all the expenses related to a vehicle; and then way the pros and cons of not owning/not-owning a vehicle. Also are there any good online sites with calculators for this? I found these three, but I’m not sure how they calculate the expenses:
http://www.youngmoney.com/calculators/auto_buying/auto_loan
http://www.fuelefficiency.org/?q=car_buyers_guide
http://www.bloomberg.com/invest/calculators/leasebuy.html
with the cost of fuel public is better, if you can do it. you can always rent a car for trips. also try using words like true cost of ownership, put in the vehicle you are thinking about, and it will show you ave fuel costs, maintenance, depreciation, etc. example prius and civic hybrid. ave 5 year costs(depreciation is huge chunk) were about $38000,

I’m not sure.
Are the new road tax bands causing the collapse in car sales ?
They certainly can’t be helping.
http://www.theaa.com/motoring_advice/car-buyers-guide/cbg_roadtax.html
i don’t think so – they are also hitting the kind of cars that we make which doesn’t sound clever.
The biggest problem is that they’re just so unnecessarily complex.
I think the new banding system is very unfair. I have an estate with a small 1.4 engine but its in the band higher than a ford mondeo 1.6 estate. We got the car because it was 1.4 now we are going to be paying over £200. I only do about 4000 miles a year but could be paying the same tax as someone doing 60,000 a year. Who will be making more omissions…not me. Put the tax on fuel at a penny a litre and scrap road tax all together then you pay accordingly. Why cant they do that?
What do you think of the looks of this car?
The current VW Passat. Personally, I find it really nice looking and like it even better than a BMW 3-Series or 5-Series, and even the Lexus ES. What do you think of it?

I like it, the interior is really nice, I’d love a Passat when I pass my test. (Currently learning to drive) :]
